Phuket is separated from Bangkok by over 1,000 Km
Phuket is an island very far removed from Bangkok, it is a major source for foreign wealth in Thailand and the massive tourism and holiday home industries ensure any political problems leave the island well alone. The ever expanding Property, Marine and Hotel industries in Phuket have, over the last 10 years, watched many political problems revolve around the capital, Bangkok and have just carried on expanding into the multibillion dollar markets they have become.
“The Yachting and Marine market in Phuket is totally unaffected by Bangkok’s political troubles!” states Sunseeker Thailand’s MD Craig Murphy “Global news forgets to explain that with a population of 67 million, only 20,000 are involved in the reported troubles and even then we are talking about a small area of Bangkok, 1,000 km away”.
Many of the 5 star resorts and luxury property developments have had a great season and are continuing to expand. The private yacht market enjoyed the most successful International Boat Show to date with good solid sales reported by Sunseeker, Simpsons, Lee Marine and Princess all of which are reporting ever increasing sales. Yacht Charter Companies continue to enjoy one of the most lucrative seasons ever with good reservation levels throughout the summer.
“The upshot is that Phuket continues to be a safe, secure and economic place to berth your boat. The cruising is spectacular and the infrastructure supporting the boats gets stronger every year. The arrival of our 40 meter yacht in December just goes to show the confidence we and our owners have in this area” Craig concludes.
